The Literacy Center currently has two job openings:

Director of Development and Volunteer Engagement

The Literacy Center, a nonprofit organization established in 1977 to prepare Lehigh County adults to successfully pursue their professional, academic, and personal goals through adult literacy instruction, is seeking a Director of Development and Volunteer Engagement with a proven track record in the local community.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and implement an annual development plan with innovative and effective strategies to expand operating revenue
  • Research and pursue new funding opportunities
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on development activities and outcomes
  • Coordinate and provide staff support for the board development committee
  • Coordinate communication about funding needs, opportunities, and requirements with program, fiscal, and executive staff
  • Prepare public and private grant proposals and reports
  • Develop fundraising campaigns
  • Manage an annual giving campaign
  • Organize and coordinate fundraisers and special events
  • Coordinate formal and informal communication with donors, volunteers, and partners through meetings, emails, social media, an annual report, a quarterly newsletter, and other means
  • Maintain DonorPerfect database
  • Serve as a spokesperson and representative for the organization through the media, meetings, and events
  • Establish and develop partnerships with other organizations
  • Coordinate volunteer opportunities and experiences
  • Facilitate communication with volunteers
  • Provide support to volunteers
  • Organize volunteer appreciation events

Candidates must have experience:

  • Writing grant proposals to public and private funders
  • Organizing and coordinating special events
  • Organizing annual giving campaigns
  • Developing relationships with local businesses and other donors
  • Managing a donor database
  • Using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, DonorPerfect, and Word Press
  • Using social media platforms including Facebook and Twitter for fundraising and communications purposes
  • Recruiting, managing and supporting volunteers

Candidates must also have:

  • Excellent writing skills
  • Superior interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, nonprofit management, or another related field.

Administrative Assistant

The Literacy Center is seeking a highly-organized administrative assistant who is bilingual in English and Spanish to work full time for our busy office and adult literacy program. Qualified candidates must be bilingual in English and Spanish, have exceptional computer, communication, and organizational skills, and be passionate about adult literacy. A high school diploma or GED is required. Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining organizational and program records
  • Greeting and assisting guests
  • Answering the phone and responding to emails
  • Assisting students with application and registration
  • Creating and maintaining student, volunteer, and employment files
  • Entering data into multiple databases
  • Purchasing supplies and coordinating appointments with vendors
  • Preparing letters and other mailings
  • Providing administrative support to the executive director, development director, data analyst and program coordinators
  • Processing and recording financial transactions
