Employment Opportunities at The Literacy Center

The Literacy Center currently has two job openings:

Development Director

The Literacy Center is seeking a development director with a proven track record in the local community. Experience with public and private grants, special events, individual and small business giving, and donor database management is required. Candidates should have superior interpersonal, written and verbal communication, organization, and analysis skills. Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, nonprofit management, or another related field is strongly preferred. Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and implement an annual development plan with innovative and effective strategies to expand operating revenue
  • Research and pursue new funding opportunities
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on development activities and outcomes
  • Coordinate and provide staff support for the board development committee
  • Coordinate communication about funding needs, opportunities, and requirements with program, fiscal, and executive staff
  • Prepare public and private grant proposals and reports
  • Develop fundraising campaigns including but not limited to an annual appeal
  • Organize and coordinate two special events each year
  • Coordinate formal and informal communication with donors, volunteers, and partners through meetings, emails, social media, an annual report, a quarterly newsletter, and other means
  • Maintain DonorPerfect database
  • Serve as a spokesperson and representative for the organization through the media, meetings, and events
  • Establish and develop partnerships with other organizations

Administrative Assistant

The Literacy Center is seeking a highly-organized administrative assistant who is bilingual in English and Spanish to work full time for our busy office and adult literacy program. Qualified candidates must be bilingual in English and Spanish, have exceptional computer, communication, and organizational skills, and be passionate about adult literacy. A high school diploma or GED is required. Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining organizational and program records
  • Greeting and assisting guests
  • Answering the phone and responding to emails
  • Assisting students with application and registration
  • Creating and maintaining student, volunteer, and employment files
  • Entering data into multiple databases
  • Purchasing supplies and coordinating appointments with vendors
  • Preparing letters and other mailings
  • Providing administrative support to the executive director, development director, data analyst and program coordinators
  • Processing and recording financial transactions
