Welcome to the The
Literacy Center, a
private, non-profit
organization founded in 1977. The Literacy Center provides a variety of
services to enable people to
achieve personal goals
through literacy. Free,
one-to-one or group
instruction is available to
out-of-school youth and
adults, aged 16+ who would like to:
Improve their reading and
writing skills
Study English as a Second
Language (ESL)
Earn the GED® (Certificate
of General Educational
Development)
For over thirty years, The Literacy Center has
worked to help the people of
the Lehigh Valley improve their
lives, the lives of their
families, and their community by
improving their literacy.
We’ve already touched the lives of
more than 14,000 of your neighbors.
One of five adults in the U.S. read at or below a fifth grade level. This is far below the level needed to earn a living wage.
