English as a Second Language (ESL) Classes

(Read this page in Español or Arabic)

The Literacy Center offers classes to adult residents who are interested in learning English as a Second Language.   Classes run from September – June and are offered in the morning and in the evening. (For more information, please read our Frequently Asked Questions page.)

Please note that at this time our classes are full.  You are free to submit an application, but you will not be contacted until early summer.  If you are accepted into the program, classes will start in September.

Step 1: Submit your Application Online.

Click here to complete your online application. After you’ve opened the page, click “Create a New Account,” and then fill out the necessary information. (If you need more instructions for creating an account, click here.) If you do not have access to a computer or need some help completing the application online, come to our office to complete your application. This is only the first step. You must complete the following steps to have a complete application.

Step 2: Take your Appraisal Test.

After you apply for classes, you must come in to our office to take a 30-minute Appraisal Test. This test will tell us how much English you already speak so that we can place you into the right class. Please plan to come when you have at least 30 minutes to take the test. The following are recommended times:

New hours beginning June 18:

          Wednesdays from 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM
          Thursdays from 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM

Please remember: you must complete both the application and the Appraisal Test for your application to be considered for enrollment.

Step 3: Wait for Us to Contact You.

Once we have received both your application and your Appraisal Test, we will ask you to wait until we contact you, either through phone or email. Please check your email or phone calls, as here we will give you information about the next steps in the process.

Please be patient; you may have to wait several months for us to contact you. If your phone number or email address changes, please call us to let us know of this change so that we can call the right phone number or email the right address. While you are waiting, you can visit our ESL Resources page to practice your English speaking skills.

Due to the increased need in this program, we cannot guarantee the acceptance of all applicants.
